NARESH PAKDASHI
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naresh Pakdashi one of Thakura's close Gruhi disciples. I believe he was also nominated to the first trust board that thakura formed (I am not sure, someone can verify). He is from a Jamindar family and was suffering from a serious disease when he was only 17 years old. Long story short, he was cured after taking Thakura's prasad in a very miraculous way.

his name was Jogendra nath Sarkar and was a lawyer by profession. You may find a few letters that Thakura has written to him and his wife from Thakurer Chithi. Those letters prove how much Thakura loved him and his family that he left behind when he became a sanyashi.

Jogeshwar Gangopadhyay’s
First Encounter with Sri Sri Thakur NIGAMANANDA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Source: Shataroope Aparoopa Nigamananda, Part 5)
Sri Jogeshwar Gangopadyay was one of the first and most eminent disciples of Sri Sri Thakur. He had met Sri Sri Thakur in Durgapur Shanti Ashram. Although Jogeshwar bhai has not mentioned the exact date of his first meeting, he had met Thakur before Thakur published GyaniGuru in 1908. Hence the year of his encounter is expected to be around 1907. A synopsis of his first meeting and experience, taken from his writings, is presented below.
My father was working in Comilla (currently in Bangladesh). Rather than staying in our village with our mother, I along with my brothers were staying with my father and going to school there. After my education, I accepted a position as a school teacher in Comilla National School.
One day, my father gave me a book titled “YogiGuru” and said, “Read the book. The writer is a saint. It is very rare to find such yogis in society. His ashram is in nearby Durgapur. Go and visit him once.”
When I opened the book and saw the slim-figured photo of Sri Sri Thakur, I was captivated. After I finished reading the book, I was eager to see him. Every day I thought of going to his ashram; but, for some reason or other, I could not. Few months passed by in this manner. One day, for some reason, I was absent from school. The next day when I arrived at work, I heard that Swami Nigamananda Paramahamsa had visited the school the previous day. Much later, I had come to know that for me only he had paid the visit. Indeed, otherwise, he had no reason to visit the school. I was remorseful knowing that I could not meet with him. After that I became impatient to go and meet with him. Nevertheless, a few more months passed by. Finally, one day I made up my mind that I will go to Shanti Ashram.
After reaching Durgapur, I did not have any trouble in finding the ashram. Entering into the ashram house, I found an ascetic person sleeping on the table facing up. His eyes were wide open and he was not even blinking. He did not react in any way in spite of my presence. As I walked forward inside the house, I saw someone coming out. I was taken aback to see him; he was very young and his body appeared like it was made out of condensed fire. He was so handsome that I had never even imagined a person could have such a look. As he came forward, looking at him, my ever-proud head automatically bowed down; I prostrated before him. My heart screamed inside me, “This is my Guru”.
As I got up, he asked, “What do you want?”
I had not gone there with a specific goal. Therefore, I was a bit bewildered by that question. Without knowing what to answer, I simply said, “I do not know what I want”.
Then I felt, my answer was not appropriate. So, I continued, “But, I do understand this much that I need your grace.”
“Find out what you need and then come,” saying this he walked out briskly.
I realized that he was going for an afternoon walk. So, I felt it was time for me to go back home. Still, I was somewhat perplexed with his reply. Looking down, I pondered about it. When I looked up, he was gone. How could he disappear so quickly, I wondered. The road in front of the ashram went about 80 or 90 feet and then joined a road that ran north to south. Without any delay, I started to walk fast on the road. After reaching the corner, I was able to see far in both directions of the road. But, to my utter surprise, I could not see him in either direction. Totally mystified, I carefully looked at both directions a few times. Still there was no sign of him. Then finally, I gave up and returned home. Till today, that incident has remained a mystery to me.
About five or six years later, I received initiation from Sri Sri Thakur. At that time, by the way of talking, Chidananda Maharaj mentioned to me that, the day I first visited Shanti Ashram, the same evening Sri Sri Thakur told him, “The person who had come this afternoon is mine. Write down his name.”
Thus, Chidananda Maharaj brought the notebook and pen. Sri Sri Thakur took those from him, and holding the notebook, he asked himself, “What is his name”? He then wrote down my name himself. Whoever were present there thought that Sri Sri Thakur had asked me my name during the afternoon and at that time he was trying the recall that before writing. As a matter of fact he had not asked me any of that.
